Hotel An der Gruga is a family-run hotel in the third generation – founded in 1956 by the grandfather of today’s hotel manager Christoph Weber. It is a popular address for business and business travellers, but also for tourists who want to explore the Ruhr area and the city of Essen.
This is especially thanks to its very central and yet quiet location! Because the Hotel An der Gruga in the middle of the lively scene quarter Essen-Rüttenscheid is only a few minutes’ walk away from the Messe Essen, the famous Grugahalle, where big events and concerts are always taking place, and also the beautiful Grugapark – Essen’s “green oasis”.
There is a wide, very varied range of gastronomic offerings on the legendary Rüttenscheider Straße or “Rü”, as the people of Essen affectionately call their trendy mile. With its wonderful cafés, restaurants and small stores it is also only a few minutes’ walk away.
And if you want to relax a little after a strenuous day at the trade fair or sightseeing, take a well-earned wellness break in the nearby Grugapark-Therme with its varied spa program and offerings.
Due to the good transport connections and the central location, the hotel is an ideal starting point for excursions to the cultural highlights of the Ruhr area.

Gastronomy
With us the pleasant overnight stay stands completely in the focus. Therefore we do not have a restaurant. Not bad, because only 5 minutes walk away is the Rüttenscheider Straße or “Rü”, as the people of Essen affectionately call their scene- and gastro mile. There are more than 60 cafés, restaurants and pubs offering everything to please the heart and the palate: whether gourmet burgers, Italian pasta, Spanish paella or real Japanese sushi – here you can find everything to delight the culinary senses.

Would you like to relax a little after an exhausting day at the trade fair or sightseeing? Then simply take a well-deserved wellness break in the nearby Grugapark-Therme with its versatile spa program and offers. Bathrobe and towels will be provided for you.
Bikes
Would you like to explore the city, the popular Lake Baldeney or the Ruhr by bike? A good idea, because there are numerous beautiful bike routes in Essen.
We will gladly provide you with our bicycles free of charge.
Parking space
If you travel by car, please let us know! We will gladly reserve a supervised parking space for 12 EUR per day at the back of our hotel. And if you prefer to keep your car in a garage, there is a single garage available for this purpose upon request. Important: Since the contingent is limited, please make sure to inquire in advance! Tips for parking outside we will gladly give you at the reception.

No matter whether you arrive by car, train or plane: The Hotel An der Gruga is easily accessible by all means!
By car
From the nearby A 52 motorway, simply take exit no. 28 “Essen-Rüttenscheid” and follow the signs to Messe/Gruga. Our hotel is located in the immediate vicinity of the east entrance to the trade fair grounds and then keep left on Alfredstraße in the direction of Essen-Zentrum. Turn left into Florastraße and the next right into Eduard-Lucas-Straße.
By train
From Essen main station, take the subway U11 to “Messe Ost/Gruga” (travel time approx. 6 minutes). The walking distance to the hotel is 50 m. A ride by cab costs about € 10.
By Plane
The nearest airport is in Düsseldorf. For a cab ride, please allow about 20 minutes depending on traffic. The cab ride costs between € 50 and € 60 depending on the traffic.
Public transportation
Our guests appreciate the direct and optimal transport connection from our hotel. The subway station of the line U11 is only 50 meters away.
From there you can reach many destinations.
