West German Tumor Center
The West German Tumor Center Essen (WTZ), a Comprehensive Cancer Center based on the American model, has been recognized as a top oncological center in Germany since 2009 and is Germany’s largest tumor center. It is the only top oncological center in the Ruhr metropolitan region and is funded by the German Cancer Aid. Doctors and scientists from more than 40 hospitals and institutes work together here in interdisciplinary treatment programs and offer every cancer patient a tailor-made therapy. More than 490,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Germany every year. Almost half of all cancer patients can be cured today. The physicians and scientists at the West German Tumor Center (WTZ) of the University Hospital Essen (UK Essen) also make an important contribution to this – as demonstrated by the distinction as “Top Oncological Center” awarded in 2009, which was renewed by the German Cancer Aid in 2013.
The Hotel an der Gruga in Rüttenscheid is only 20 minutes on foot and 8 minutes by bike from the West German Tumor Center. You can also get to the WTZ directly through the beautiful Grugapark, which starts right outside the door of the Hotel an der Gruga, so that you can combine your visit there with a relaxing walk through the beautiful Grugapark.
