Alfried Krupp Hospital
The beginnings of the Alfried Krupp Hospital go back to the military hospital founded by Alfried Krupp in the war year 1870. From modest beginnings, initially limited to the company’s employees, the “Krupp Hospitals”, which had become proverbial in Essen, developed some 50 years later. From the 1920s they were open not only to Krupp employees but also to non-working members of the workforce.
The Alfried Krupp Hospital in the Rüttenscheid district of Essen was rebuilt in 1980 on the initiative of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation and is now an academic teaching hospital of the University of Duisburg-Essen. As a foundation hospital, the Alfried Krupp Hospital is committed to the tradition of the Krupp family: the entrepreneurial spirit which has always produced important innovations in a progress-oriented manner and at the same time has always regarded service to health care as a fundamental obligation. Distributed among 13 clinics that offer their patients treatment at the highest medical level, it has a total of 575 beds.
